New Delhi, October 14, 2025:
In a landmark announcement, Google confirmed plans to set up its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The new facility will combine Google’s AI infrastructure, data center capacity, and clean energy systems to drive India’s digital transformation.

Largest Google Investment in India

Google will invest $15 billion (USD) between 2026 and 2030 — its biggest commitment in India so far.
The move supports the Indian Government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which focuses on innovation and technology-led growth.

A study by Access Partnership, commissioned by Google, found that the project could also contribute $15 billion to the U.S. economy through collaboration and new AI-driven business activity.

Leaders Praise the Initiative

The announcement came during Bharat AI Shakti, a Google event in New Delhi held ahead of the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
Key attendees included:

  • Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for IT and Electronics
  • Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance
  • Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
  • Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Andhra Pradesh
  • Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud

“This investment will help meet the goals of our India AI Mission,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw.
“I thank Google for supporting reskilling and upskilling efforts for India’s youth.”

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu added:

“Andhra Pradesh is proud to host India’s first gigawatt-scale data center and AI hub. This is a major step in our digital journey.”

Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud CEO, said:

“The Visakhapatnam AI Hub represents a landmark investment in India’s future. It will enable businesses to innovate faster and create inclusive growth opportunities.”

Gigawatt-Scale AI Infrastructure

The upcoming data center campus will deliver gigawatt-scale computing capacity to meet India’s fast-growing digital needs.
Built in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel, it will use the same technology that powers Google Search, YouTube, and Workspace.

The facility will also connect with Google’s AI data centers in 12 countries, benefiting from ongoing research in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

Stronger Global Connectivity

Google will build a new international subsea gateway at Visakhapatnam, with multiple undersea cables linking to its global network of over two million miles of infrastructure.
This will improve speed, reliability, and route diversity for India’s digital services, complementing existing cable hubs in Mumbai and Chennai.

Focus on Clean Energy

Sustainability remains central to Google’s plan.
The company will work with local partners to add new transmission lines, renewable energy sources, and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh.
These efforts will help strengthen India’s electricity grid while keeping operations energy-efficient.

A Defining Step for India’s AI Ambitions

The Visakhapatnam AI Hub is more than infrastructure — it’s a symbol of India’s growing global role in AI.
By combining technology, connectivity, and clean energy, Google’s investment aims to spark innovation, jobs, and economic growth for millions.
