OpenAI has just announced a major partnership with Oracle to build 4.5 gigawatts (GW) of new data center capacity across the U.S. This move is part of OpenAI’s Stargate project—an ambitious plan to build the infrastructure needed for the future of AI.

This massive expansion will help:

Create over 100,000 new jobs in construction and operations

Support the training of next-gen AI models

Strengthen U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence

Boost OpenAI’s goal to build 10 GW of AI infrastructure by 2029

With this new Oracle partnership, OpenAI now has over 5 GW of data center capacity in development—enough to run more than 2 million AI chips.

The project is already showing results. At the Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas, parts of the data center are already live, and early AI workloads have begun. Thousands of workers from across the U.S. are already involved, and many more are expected to join as construction ramps up.

OpenAI is also working with other key partners like SoftBank and Microsoft to power this AI future.

> This is a big step toward making AI more powerful, more reliable, and more useful for everyone.
